Throughout their tumultuous 30-plus-year career, The Pretenders have released nine albums, mourned the death of two band members, broke-up, re-formed, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame somewhere along the line. Led by the legendary frontwoman and chief songwriter, Chrissie Hynde, who is still rocking her skin-tight jeans and high-heel boots, is back on tour with a new-ish version of the Pretenders that features original drummer Martin Chambers as well as two new guitarists.

Their latest release, 2008’s rockabilly-country-punk influenced Break up the Concrete, is the best Pretenders album since the 1980s, when their post-punk melodic rock topped the charts. Billboard called Break up the Concrete “an engaging departure from the group’s earlier hits, while Hynde’s dynamic alto voice gives the set the unmistakable Pretenders identity.” This new material is a refreshing addition to their catalogue of classic songs that includes “Back on the Chain Gang”, “I’ll Stand By You”, and “Brass in Pocket.”

Chrissie Hynde will bring The Pretenders to Austin on March 1st for a performance at Stubb’s. Southern rockers American Bang open the show. Tickets are available now through stubbs.frontgatetickets.com.

The best British group to feature a singer born in Akron, Ohio, The Pretenders have had their share of ups and down over the past 30 years, and even Chrissie Hynde admitted during her Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame acceptance speech in 2005 that the band has ultimately looked like a tribute act. more at austin.decider.com

I didn't think in my lifetime that I would get a chance to see The Pretenders live in concert. I am even more excited now all that I logged those hours of playing "Tattooed Love Boys" on Guitar Hero.
