86994 Contemporary Fiber <p><!--StartFragment--></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong> Contemporary Fiber</strong><br /> Fiber &amp; mixed media art by Oscar Silva </span></p> <p>Exhibit: August 14 &ndash; September 1, 2009<br /> Reception: Friday, August 14, 6:00 &ndash; 8:00 pm</p> <p>La Pe&ntilde;a presents &ldquo;Contemporary Fiber&rdquo; an exhibit of fiber and mixed media artwork by Oscar Silva. It will be on display at La Pe&ntilde;a&rsquo;s gallery in Downtown Austin from August 14th &ndash; September 1st. The opening reception will be taking place Friday, August 14th from 6-8 pm and also features a performance by classical Mexican guitarist Buzz Guerra.</p> <p>Oscar Silva is an artist who experiments with natural fibers and mixed media to explore their inherent sculptural capabilities. He often uses architectural design and natural fiber to investigate the confines of modern society. Mixing the qualities of nature with that of industrialization by using handmade paper and various fibers with mixed media allows him to engage fiber&rsquo;s form while still preserving its integrity.</p> <p>Oscar Silva received his B.F.A. in Studio Art from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in San Marcos and his M.F.A. in Fiber with a minor in Sculpture from the University of North Texas in Denton. His work has been exhibited extensively in galleries throughout Texas, Michigan, and New Mexico.
