100443 Friendly Fires, The XX, Holly Miranda <p>Friendly Fires have been winning over US audiences with their energetic, ass-shaking live shows since first arriving here last fall and causing quite a stir at 2008's CMJ festival, garnering praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone and The Fader to name a few. Their self-titled debut album was named NPR's #4 album of 2008, and their song "On Board" was featured in a Wii ad that received heavy rotation. Pitchfork says "Although their self-titled debut has the immediacy and hard hooks that riddle so much of this genre, Friendly Fires show an amplified, ambitious, and inventive attention to detail that helps steer them away from sounding like just another polished party band."</p> <p>The xx are four young boys and girls from South West London who provide the hushed minimal strokes of young Marble Giants and early Cure, but through the minds of a young act obsessed with the r&amp;b turns of Ciara and Aaliyah. Having signed to XL sub-label Young Turks earlier in the year the band begun to record with a host of the finest producers going, including brazilian giant Diplo.
