Phosphorescent is a band created and fronted by Matthew Houck. Alabama-born, by way of a stint in Athens, Georgia, Houck has based himself in New York since 2007, running with a multitude of emerging talent and connoisseurs of hybrid scenes such as Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, and Dirty Projectors. To date, Houck has released five full-length albums under the Phosphorescent moniker.
They are touring in support of the 2010 release Here's to Taking It Easy, featuring the current live incarnation of Phosphorescent (Scott Stapleton, piano; Jeff Bailey, bass; Chris Marine, drums; Jesse Anderson Ainslie, guitar; Ricky Ray Jackson, pedal steel). Recorded in the band's hometown of Brooklyn with outside mixing assistance from Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Cat Power, Loretta Lynn, the Walkmen), this album breathes with life like nothing Phosphorescent has ever done before.
"Shiny Around the Edges distills early Velvet Underground dissonance and percussive primitivism and wraps both around Thurston Moore's destroyed guit...ah the heck with it. They're loud and weird. You need to see em." -Paste

Brooklyn-by-way-of-Georgia artist Matthew Houck has been recording under the working name of Phosphorescent since 2003, experimenting within the wide-open boundaries of modern folk and garnering comparisons to artists from Will Oldham to Bob Dylan along the way. more at www.avclub.com
