Critics have been buzzing about What Made Milwaukee Famous since their unforgettable 2005 SXSW showcase. Their "elegant pop" has landed them shared billing on shows with the likes of The Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The National and Snow Patrol. The music is made of melodic pop mixed with electronic-fused choruses, tight rhythms, edgy guitars, and colorful vocal arrangements.
Coming up at a time when the dance-rock wave was reaching its crest, the Lemurs initially drew comparisons to Bloc Party, The Faint, Franz Ferdinand, and the Killers. But for every synth melody or dance beat employed, the Lemurs find a counterbalance of raw, driving guitar and frenetic rhythm that imbues their music with a crackling atmospheric sheen and anxious intensity. The result is a fast paced, layered sound that owes as much to the pop lushness of My Morning Jacket as to the broader explorations of Television. With the recent addition of What Made Milwaukee Famous singer Michael Kingcaid, The Lemurs are back in the studio recording a full-length set for 2011 release.
Austin band The Authors produced their debut full-length album titled Get Haunted with Grammy Award winning producer/engineer Stuart Sikes in his Elmwood Recording Studio located in Dallas. The past few months have seen multiple positive reviews of the album from many local Austin media outlets.
"It takes the album a few minutes to find its groove, but like the ghost of a chilling memory, "Get Haunted" likely will likely stay with you for a while". --Alex Daniel Austin 360
"As with all of Get Haunted, there are hints of greatness that point towards the potentially big things that The Authors will accomplish." -- JulieS The Austinist
"The sound of Get Haunted is something that falls between The Police, Dick Dale, at times Flock Of Seagulls, and something all their own, without having that awkward kind of acquired-taste sort of sound that such a hybrid would usually warrant. In fact, every song is catchy, toe-tapping, and addictive while still maintaining individuality among songs without dragging along like many first full-albums seem to do." -Mitchell Mazurek The Deli Austin - Artists
