To raise awareness of the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure bike ride, Austin-based competitive food eater Hungry Todd Rungy will attempt to break the world cupcake speed eating record at this year’s Cupcake Smackdown, on June 4th!

When Hungry Todd heard that local film producer Dan Eppley was going to be a Red Rider in the Tour de Cure to help stop diabetes he wanted to find a way to contribute. Eppley is the producer of the tv/web series documenting Rungy’s life and competitions “The Hungry Todd Rungy Show” and has diabetes. Eppley will be biking from San Antonio to Austin on June 4th and 5th in support of the American Diabetes Association.

When eater Rungy presented the idea to Dan, Dan suggested that Todd make his attempt using sugar free cupcakes. So, to support his friend and diabetic producer, Hungry Todd Rungy will attempt to eat 6 sugar-free cupcakes in under 58 seconds at the 3rd Annual Cupcake Smackdown. The current record of 59.20 seconds is held by Rob Hartmann and at 7pm on June 4th, Hungry Todd Rungy will attempt to break it.

By speed eating sugar-free cupcakes, Hungry Todd Rungy wants to bring attention to the Cure de Tour and their efforts to help stop a disease that affects over 23 million Americans, let people know what they can do to contribute to the American Diabetes Association and entertain everyone that comes to the Cupcake Smackdown!

Mr. Eppley and Hungry Todd have put together a video of them preparing for their respective challenges while discussing what diabetes is.

Please check it out @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVYoCvh5YZk

Please join us for the record breaking attempt and help us spread the word about the Tour de Cure at the Cupcake Smackdown. There will also be beer, cupcakes and BBQ (all in moderation) and a cupcake cannon!
