Present: Yellow Ostrich

Yellow Ostrich formed in a Wisconsin dorm room in early 2009 as the solo recording project of Alex Schaaf. Over the course of the next year, Schaaf released six albums and EPs before relocating to New York City. He then recruited drummer Michael Tapper (We Are Scientists/Bishop Allen) and recorded Yellow Ostrich's debut LP, The Mistress. On the album Schaaf's voice gets looped and layered, and is often used like an instrument to flesh out the empty spaces in his bare, lo-fi indie pop tunes. With the addition of horn player Jon Natchez, Schaff was able to turn his project into a full-fledged band.
