- The Bright Light Social Hour is an Austin-based quartet that delivers dance-friendly, funk-infused indie rock. The band's music is a jamtastic mixture of classic rock, soul, funk, indie and electronic, sounding like a 21st century Deep Purple. Bright Light brought the house down at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2009, appeared at SXSW in 2010, and were named 'Best Indie Band' at the 2010 Austin Music Awards. The band’s bluesy “Detroit” was awarded song of the year, and their diverse sound also includes funk-inspired radio favorite “Back and Forth” and songs with more traditional Americana and southern rock elements. The Bright Light Social Hour also released "New Year's Live," a 4-track live EP recorded during their sold-out set at The Parish Austin on New Year's 2011. Re-teaming with producer/engineer Danny Reisch, "New Year's Live" marks the first audio recording to capture the band's raw live energy, consummated with masterfully directed live video by Hussain Pirani. The rock 'n roll dance-party vibe of their live show has put the group of Austin natives on the national music map.
