JubileeRubber RepertoryApril 5th through 21stThe Off Center
Rubber Repertory will perform Julibee - the award-winning theatre group's last show before an "indeterminate hiatus" on April 5th through 21st at The Off Center. Part dance and all devotion, the nonstop, non-narrative and non-denominational "leap of faith" from Rubber Repertory co-directors Josh Meyer and Matt Hislope.
"We're looking for more than just a good idea; we're looking for atonement - we want to find the very proper time to sound the trumpet," said Meyer and Hislope. "We want to put on the clothes that will make us disappear. We want to arrange our bodies in a way that gives real comfort."
Directed by Meyer and Hislope, Jubliee will feature lighting by Steven Shirey and concepts and costume by the performing company. The production will feature Eva Claycomb, Arthur Simone, Jen Brown, Jay Byrd, Steven Fitzpatrick, Anna Marcella McConnell, Sophie Ricketts, Susan Peterson, Paul Szent-Miklosy and Jacob Trussell.
Founded in 2002 by Meyer and Hislope, Rubber Repertory have created some of the most unique theatre in Texas - including shows such as Biography of Physical Sensation, The Casket of Passing Fancy (2007 Rockefeller MAP Fund grant), Surprise Annie, RED CANS, and the American premiere of Wallace Shawn's notoriously "unstageable" A Thought in Three Parts. The theatre troupe continually pushes boundaries and creates work high on invention and surprise. Their productions have garnered B. Iden Payne and Austin Critics Table Awards for "Outstanding Theatrical Innovation," "Outstanding Direction," "Unique Theatrical Experience" and "Outstanding Late-Night Adventure."
Performances of Jubilee will run Thursdays through Sundays at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission, and all Thursday performances will be "Pay What You Wish" at the door. The show is recommended for ages 16 and older. The Off Center is located at 2211 Hidalgo Street.
