When a Priest Marries a Witch, an Artist Talk by Suzanne Bocanegra starring Paul Lazar

Last year Larry Kardish, a curator at MoMA asked me to do an artist talk about my work. Usually artist talks are slide shows explaining the chronological development of the artist's work, but I decided I wanted to talk about how I became an artist growing up in Pasadena, Texas and the scandal involving an artist in my wacky Catholic Church. And I decided I wanted Paul Lazar to be me. The talk is called "When a Priest Marries a Witch, an Artist Talk by Suzanne Bocanegra starring Paul Lazar." Together (sort of) we tell a tale incorporating Elvis, abstract expressionism, the Pope, astronauts, the Singing Nun and obviously, a witch. 

Since that original talk at MoMA, the piece has been performed at James Cohan Gallery in NYC, the Wexner Center, the Tang Museum at Skidmore College, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Performing Garage in NYC, Princeton University, the Prelude Theater Festival, and at the Chocolate Factory.
