Event Details
Great Lake Swimmers is an award-winning Canadian indie folk band which formed in 2003 in Ontario, Canada. The band revolves around the haunting and wistful vocals of songwriter/vocalist Tony Dekker, backed by a well-rounded folk rock band that currently features Erik Arneson (banjo, guitar, harmonium), Bret Higgens (bass), Greg Millson (drums), and Miranda Mulholland (violin and backing vocals.) Great Lake Swimmers are part of a new movement of folk-rock groups that marry influences from contemporary indie rock with the harmony-infused folk bands of the late-60s, such as the Byrds, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Fleetwood Mac. The band's sound has been compared to the jangly folk-pop of Fleet Foxes and hushed intimacy of Iron & Wine. Great Lake Swimmers’ live show has won them ever-expanding audiences around the world, having shared the stage with the likes of Feist, Bela Fleck, Andrew Bird, and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. The Toronto-based group has recorded five full-length albums, and built a reputation for recording in unconventional locations such as subways, castles, silos, and churches. Their fifth studio album, "New Wild Everywhere," is scheduled for release on April 3, 2012.
