Join us for the inaugural meeting of our brand new project: The Sprocket Society. The Sprocket Society is a new weekend daytime screening series engineered to cultivate the love of mechanical cinema, its arts and sciences, and to encourage film preservation by bringing film and its history to the public through screenings, educational activities, and our own archival efforts. The Sprocket Society is an adventurer's club for the daring movie viewer as we exhume the moldering tombs of forgotten films and explore the distant reaches of the cinematic frontier. We'll be joined by fascinating guests from the Texas Archive Of The Moving Image, individual collectors, and more.

We kick off the series with a package of shorts featuring legendary later work by the wizard of the silent screen Georges Melies; a rare restoration of a Western made by his brother Gaston Melies at their Star Film Ranch in San Antonio, Texas; a 1930's adventure documentary on African Pygmies that inspired Werner Herzog to become a filmmaker; a chapter of the original Flash Gordon serial; and a cosmically psychedelic experimental work dealing with "the end of mankind on Earth, prophesying man's liberation from his earthly bounds to roam the Universe at will." If you love our Big Screen Classics and Cinema Club, this is the next step.
