Thursday, August 23rd will be proclaimed by the Austin City Mayor as 'Frederico & Suns of Orpheus day', "in recognition of musical excellence and cultural outreach through the arts." In addition to receiving this honor and performing live at City Hall, the band will release the record Amoris Orbita (Love Orbit) at the legendary Antone's.

An amazing roster of Latin Worldbeat artists have been assembled to celebrate in great style with the big barrio sounds of San Antonio's 10-piece ensemble Bombasta!, the ecl
ectic Latin American Punk Rock of upcoming stars La Guerrilla, the contemporanean Colombian and South American sounds of Kiko y la Banda and certainly the International Psychedelic Pop sounds of Suns of Orpheus.

Suns of Orpheus (http://www.sunsoforpheus.com/) – Born in the summer of 2011, conceptualized by Austin-based brazilian writer Frederico Geib, the band has been voted among the '10 best new bands of 2011' and 'None of the Above' categories in the Austin Chronicle's Music Poll. Their 2011 self-titled EP garnered rave reviews in independent blogs and online publications due to their “delicious blend of Psychedelic Pop with a brazilian twist”. Previously, the individual musicians worked with acts such as Patty Griffin, Bob Schneider, Ghandaia, Sub Oslo, Charanga Cakewalk, The Echocentrics and many more. The album Amoris Orbita counts with the special participation of Grammy winner saxophonist Phillipe Vieux (Eddie Palmieri) and Martín Perna (AntiBalas-Ocote/Soul Sounds)

Bombasta Barrio Big Band (www.myspace.com/bombasta) - Originating out of the art warehouses and late night parties in the barrios of San Antonio in the summer of 2003, Bombasta quickly progressed to spreading their vision of positivity, liberation and good music throughout Texas. From the stage of some of the choicest venues in the area, to the streets at political marches, Bombasta crosses borders and speaks the truth as they see it- from the bottom looking up.

La Guerrilla (www.laguerrillamusic.com) - "Throw any kind of descriptors at La Guerrilla – Latin rock, funk, pop, soul, hip-hop – and they'll all stick. But probably the best way to convey what the genre-bending six-piece sounds like is to put it this way: it's a band where members who individually love Gogol Bordello, Björk, Flaming Lips, At the Drive In and Chico Mann can feel at home with one another." - Chad Swiatecki- The Austin American Statesman

Kiko y la Banda (http://home.earthlink.net/~kikoylabanda/kiko.html) - Kiko Villamizar was born in Miami, Florida to Colombian parents in the mid- 1970's. As a young boy, he moved to the Andean city of Medellin, Colombia where he learned Latin American folk music through the oral tradition of his family. He soon began traveling the Americas, absorbing the melodies and beats that he has formed into his own unique mix of Afro-Colombiano, vallenato, ska, reggae and salsa to create a cosmic sound that is highly emotional, danceable and rooted in social awareness and the musical joy and common brotherhood of human beings all over the world.
