The Backyard and Willie Nelson are pleased to welcome KOKE-FM back to the Austinairwaves. Longtime broadcaster Bob Cole and the alternative country favorites that put KOKE-FM on the map can be heard once again on 99.3 and 98.5 FM. The welcome back celebration concert will take place on Saturday August 25th at The Backyard at BeeCave.
From a recent Texas Monthly cover story (April 2012):
In the summer of 1972 Willie Nelson moved into Austin, just 6 months after KOKE-FM switched to its new format called Country Rock or the more politically correct term at the time “progressive country.” Radio inAustin would never be the same, Country Radio would never be the same. In 1974 Billboard (MagazIne) named KOKE-FM the most innovative station in the country.
Austinites young and old are invited to celebrate the city’s early musical heritage where it all started: with Willie Nelson and KOKE-FM at The Backyard. Like Willie sings, “There’s nothing quite like Texas on a Saturday night.” The Backyard gates will open at 6:00pm and show time is set for 7:00pm.
