Making his way halfway around the globe, XAVIER RUDD, one of Australia’s most iconic voices today, is coming to the US for a string of tour dates in support of his recently released and critically-hailed seventh album SPIRIT BIRD (SideOneDummy Records; released June 5, 2012). A multi-instrumentalist, world class surfer, animal rights activist and nature conservationist, Rudd’s widespread appeal transcends genres and categories, creating an atmosphere that Aquarian Weekly describes as “easy, feel-good listening that musically keeps you interested for its entirety.” His legendary live performances replete with his indigenous didgeridoos, has been hailed by About.com as a communal dance party that “takes almost no time for the crowd to start its bouncing, twirling, and all-out dancing.” Ticket go on sale beginning Friday, July 13th (tour dates below).

Fusing hypnotic ceremonial rhythms into tender and breezy folk songs, Rudd creates a vibe and tone that is unmistakably earthy and excitingly expansive. Eastern Surf Magazine says, “He doesn’t create music; music just comes through him.” Paste Magazine offers, “He combines soft, melodic vocals with unique instrumentals to create a sound that is all at once inspiring and heartbreaking.” Perfectly representative of his mesmerizing ability to combine rhythm, melody and sounds from nature, the first single, “Follow the Sun” ebbs and flows hypnotically, with a lilting guitar line and a flitting harmonica that propels you forward in a breezy haze. By incorporating aboriginal chants into the fabric of the title track, Xavier constructs an epic goosebump-inducing song that soars in otherworldly bliss, cathartically crashing into a whispered hush.
