Danny Malone has been raised on local Texas music. He’s taken his rockin’ roots to an extreme with original, energetic melodies and intelligent songwriting. His sound is an accessible mixture of indie rock, folk and alt country, but like many true artists his sound cannot honestly be narrowed down to any particular genre. His debut full-length studio effort, ‘Cuddlebug,’ has drawn an impressive amount of critical appreciation. Before appearing at the Jelling Festival in Denmark, Danny Malone recorded his new double album, Balloons, in a 500-year-old castle with local producer Matthew Smith “Danny Malone’s first full-length studio effort, ‘Cuddlebug,’ may prove to be an instant classic. Not since The Counting Crows released August and Everything After in 1994 has an album achieved a perfect balance between intelligence and accessibility. Malone played nearly every instrument on this record, aside from a few delegated parts, but his most powerful instrument, clearly, is his voice. Pitched high and fragile, his voice quakes with an urgent sincerity. It has a range including the playfulness of a Connor Oberst and the power of a Jimmy Gnecco, and is especially effective paired with Heidi Johnson’s rich vocal harmonies, which complement the songs throughout. Malone has an uncanny ability to capture the sweetness and tragedy of life, oftentimes in the same song.” - Palomino, Universal
