The White Horse is proud to present a free preview screening of Eric Tretbar’s film GIRL MEETS BIKE on Saturday, April 20th at 4pm. Written and directed by Tretbar, the film follows the story of a young high school shop teacher that buys her first motorcycle with her wedding dress money, leading her away from her controlling fiancée into a new circle of friends who are attracted to her but threatened by her new-found sexual freedom. Screening of GIRL MEETS BIKE is a free event. Seating is limited so please arrive early.
So what kind of movie is GIRL MEETS BIKE? It’s a motorcycle movie–but what kind? “The real difficulty in making a motorcycle movie is the expectations from older films, says director, Eric Tretbar. “Except for a few greats like THE WILD ONE and EASY RIDER, motorcycles movies are mostly exploitation films like WILD ANGELS. Those films are a lot of fun, but I wanted to make something more realistic... It’s also a love story, but not the kind you think. It’s a story of first love, but for a bike. Every motorcyclist had his or her first bike, and like a first love, it was probably ill-suited, ill-styled, or just plain wrong! But we loved it anyway, despite our friends’ warnings and complaints. Because what we were really discovering was not who to love, but how.”
GIRL MEETS BIKE is the 7th feature film by Minneapolis-based Eric Tretbar. His films have won the audience award at the Berlin Film Festival, received an Independent Spirit Award nomination (the indie Academy Awards), and aired on the Sundance Channel, German TV, and NBC. They’ve also screened in competition at world festivals, including London, Athens, Sao Paulo, Warsaw, Seattle, Toronto, Rivertown, Orlando, Vienna, Hong Kong, Melbourne, the American Film Institute, and Los Angeles Independent. Eric is also an avid Moto Guzzi enthusiast and musician, scoring much of his film music, and drumming for Minneapolis and L.A. garage/R&B/punk outfits THE FUNSEEKERS, MUSKELLUNGE, THE SPECTORS, THE RED HEARTS and FRIENDS LIKE THESE.
