Even though the Fourth of July holiday pushed the Blanton’s B Scene back a week this month, the art party promises to be bigger and better than ever. Tonight’s festivities celebrate the opening of the museum’s latest exhibit, “Exquisite Visions of Japan: Prints from the James A. Michener Collection of the Honolulu Academy of Arts,” with a Japanese-style festival featuring world-beat DJ Avatar, gallery tours, hands-on art activities, light snacks courtesy of Catering by Rosemary and a cash bar featuring the Blanton’s signature drink, the Blantini.

For her latest exhibit, “Shadows and Light,” artist Laurel Daniel has captured the fluctuations of the sun’s light on nature’s landscapes. Using oil, Daniel painted images of rolling fields and groves of trees that almost seem like backdrops to her vivid, distinctive skies. After graduating from Wheaton College, Daniel studied at the San Francisco Academy of Art and the Austin Museum of Art School. After moving to Austin in 1999 and working with oil paints again after 20 years, she began exhibiting her work, appearing at several local shows. more at austin360.com
