Even though the Fourth of July holiday pushed the Blanton’s B Scene back a week this month, the art party promises to be bigger and better than ever. Tonight’s festivities celebrate the opening of the museum’s latest exhibit, “Exquisite Visions of Japan: Prints from the James A. Michener Collection of the Honolulu Academy of Arts,” with a Japanese-style festival featuring world-beat DJ Avatar, gallery tours, hands-on art activities, light snacks courtesy of Catering by Rosemary and a cash bar featuring the Blanton’s signature drink, the Blantini.

In the decades between 1880 and 1900, American Indians underwent significant cultural transformations as a result of European settlers who thrust them into reservations and Euro-American customs. During this period, William J. Lenny and William L.
