Storming the 2011 Old Settlers Music Festival in his trademark Nudie-type suit/toreador outfit typically stunning Nashville songmaster Jim Lauderdale made at least one attendee wonder what Gram Parsons might have grown up to be, had the so-called father of country rock not become another proverbial shooting star. Lauderdale not only lived up to his full potential at least a decade ago, but as last years teaming with Dead lyricist Robert Hunter proved, perhaps the best is yet to come. Theres more hip-hop going down Thursday night than you could shake a Polaroid at, so pick your poison. At Beauty Ballroom, De La Soul producer and D.A.I.S.Y. Age pioneer Prince Paul mixes it up with local Latin funk crew and recent GZA backers Brownout and go-to Austin scratcher DJ Chicken George.
