After compiling all of the videos we wanted to put into the program, we realized that we were trying to make a Sing-Along show that was almost five hours long. The solution, of course, was to put together a whole new show that built upon the awesomeness of the first but added even more. This time around we'll right the wrongs we committed by not having ELECTRIC YOUTH in the first show. We'll put in more Cyndi Lauper with SHE BOP and TRUE COLORS. Our Mondays will be manic and the rain will come again, falling on our heads like a memory. We won't have a theater downtown until the Ritz opens in September, but we're keeping the Sing-Alongs alive through the summer at the Village with Ladies of the 80s Volume 2 on Friday nights in August! Let's get physical, physical!

Location: Alamo Village

Kid Policy: 18 and up; Children 6 and up will be allowed only with a parent or guardian. Its signature song, Over the Rainbow, sung by the young Judy Garland, has been voted the greatest movie song of all-time by the American Film Institute.

The film centers on Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas who is transported, along with her dog Toto, to the fantasy utopia of Oz by a violent tornado that sweeps her farmhouse home away. The storm carries the house with Dorothy and Toto to Munchkinland, a magical place far way from anything that Dorothy has ever seen or dreamed of. She is proclaimed a national heroine by the tiny inhabitants because the luck of the house's landing has caused the house to fall on and kill the Wicked Witch of the East, who holds power over the Munchkins. Suddenly, Glinda, the Good Witch of the North appears and explains all that has happened to Dorothy. Dorothy naturally wishes to return home. However the sister of the now dead Wicked Witch of the East (naturally, this is the Wicked Witch of the West, a role immortally portrayed by Margaret Hamilton) makes an unexpected appearance. Dorothy receives protection from the Wicked Witch of the West by Glinda when magically the Ruby Slippers that were worn by the dead Witch of the East are now on the feet of Dorothy: as long as she wears the slippers, says Glinda, Dorothy will be safe. The Witch of the West leaves, and thus Dorothy is sent along the Yellow Brick Road by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North to find The Wizard of Oz and get his help to return to Kansas and home. Along the way, Dorothy overcomes various obstacles and meets a talking Scarecrow (played by Ray Bolger), a Tin Man (played by Jack Haley) and a Cowardly Lion (played by Bert Lahr), who also are unsatisfied and need to find the Emerald City, of which The Wizard is master, believing that he will give them each what they desire.

For a printable movie schedule visit Time Warner Austin Website. "Movies in the Park is a community service of Time Warner Cable. Featuring freakish wunderkind Macaulay Culkin (HOME ALONE 2, ummm…) in the movie that catapulted him out of obscurity and into the arms of Michael Jackson. HOME ALONE stars Culkin as Kevin, an 8 year old boy whose entire family abandons him during the holidays, leaving him at home alone (the title is true!) while they fly to France and forget about him. Director Chris Columbus shows us the humorous side of child neglect as Kevin is forced to fend for himself, eking out a meager day-to-day subsistence, while two violent criminals (Daniel Stern, Joe Pesci) attempt to break into his house, take his belongings and kill him. Culkin won the Haley Joel Osment Award for preternaturally annoying precociousness by a tiny actor in this film, as well as a citation from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture for single-handedly resuscitating the popularity of Edvard Munch’s seminal expressionist painting “The Scream” with his now iconic mock-terrified hands-on-face expression on movie posters. The movie also features a small, but forgettable turn by Larry Hankin, the guy who played the actor who played Kramer in the fake sit-com “Jerry” on “Seinfeld”.
Movies in the Park (Hewitt): WIZARD OF OZ

Movies in the Park (Hewitt): WIZARD OF OZ

 Rated Unknown

Time Warner cable Digital Phone and the City of Hewitt are pleased to present the "Movies in the Park" summer movie in Hewitt, TX - with special assistance from the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

AUGUST 24th: THE WIZARD OF OZ
One of the most beloved of all American films, The Wizard of Oz is often ranked among the top ten best movies of all-time in various critics' and popular polls, and has provided as many indelible quotes, entered upon the American cultural consciousness, as any other film in history.
