Del tha Funky Homosapien w\Devin the Dude, The Coupghee Brothaz, Bukue One, and Th...
Wed. 10/03 | 10:00PM @ Emo's (Downtown)
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien played a crucial role in the development of West Coast underground rap with 1991’s I Wish My Brother George Was Here , which—though co-produced by his cousin Ice Cube—broke sharply from the sinister gangsta rap dominating airwaves at the time with its goofy humor and laid-back vibe. While his major label days are gone and his most recent (and biggest) commercial success came via his contributions to Gorillaz’s debut album, 2007 is proving to be a prolific year for Del, with a new solo album, 11th Hour, and records with both his Hieroglyphics crew and his Deltron 3030 side project all due. Houston’s Devin The Dude opens with surreal songs about pot-smoking aliens who shop at Wal-Mart and bewildered kids who get traumatized by his crotch-grabbing antics. Also playing: The Coughee Brothaz, Bukue One And Knowbody.

Before graduating to the giant special-effects playground called the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, director Peter Jackson honed his skills on a series of homemade splatter films, culminating in 1992’s hilarious slapstick gorefest Dead Alive. The film’s mayhem starts with the transfer of a poisonous “rat monkey” from a deserted island to a New Zealand zoo, where an afternoon excursion goes horribly awry. After a monkey bite turns Timothy Balme’s awful mother (Elizabeth Moody) into a savage zombie, he and his girlfriend must fight armies of the undead during a party at his home.

we direct your attention to the Capital T Theatre production of Samuel Beckett’s “most cheerful” play, Happy Days, opening at Hyde Park Theatre on Thursday. We enjoyed Cap T’s Mr. Marmalade, and we imagine we’ll enjoy this show, too. Especially since it features Katherine Catmull, who is always great. (Seriously. Always!)
