The average Bobby Vinton fan is probably close to—if not well past—retirement age, but it might be fun for young hipsters to hear him perform his biggest hit, “Blue Velvet.” The older fans at this Austin Symphony Orchestra-backed show will probably think of high-school dances as they listen, but David Lynch aficionados will almost certainly visualize a crazed, gas-huffing Dennis Hopper. Either that, or they’ll be closing their eyes during “Roses Are Red” and pretending they’re at the Copacabana, quietly reciting Lorraine Bracco’s inner monologue from Goodfellas while imagining that the aging crooner has just sent them champagne.
