Austin Sketch Squad Presents: The Lowbrow Monster Mash

Sat. 10/13 | 7:00PM @ Lowbrow Emporium

The Austin Sketch Squad ( austinsketchsquad.blogspot.com) is a collective of local artists who issue weekly challenges to each other to produce drawings based on a randomly assigned topic. Past entries have centered around bats, zombies, and werewolves, so it’s no surprise the Squad would pool their talents for Halloween: The Lowbrow Monster Mash features horror-themed art from the group served up alongside the Lowbrow Emporium’s eclectic selection of toys, collectibles, and skateboards, aided by Lone Star beer and music from DJ Zonabi. We’d say something like it’s bound to be “spook-tacular,” but then we’d have to kill ourselves.

Laboring under the misapprehension that Finding Nemo is the end all, be all of human existence, two little girls take the fate of their classroom goldfish into their own hands, not knowing that Pixar-land is in stark contrast to the real world. read more at austinist.com

On top of teaching us some sick surfer lingo, the most gnarly thing about this documentary is the way in which Director Angelo Mei introduces the eight surfers. He mixes early home videos, personal interviews, and telling glances into family life to set each sun-drenched boy apart. read more at austinist.com
