The first time these noise mongers came to Austin, there were five people in the audience, but we were blown away by the trio’s obtuse guitar shapes and singer Elisa Ambrogio’s ranting. The new album, ‘Boss,’ has actual songs and everything.read more at austin360.com

Still coasting from an arena tour with the Christ-loving goths in Evanescence, Chicago band Chevelle made another loud racket (its fourth of album-length) earlier this year on Vena Sera. Following the platinum-selling success of 2002’s Wonder What’s Next, Chevelle’s standing has been diminished, but little else has changed for the band, which continues to rock and stop through lurching metal akin to that made by Helmet. As for opener Fair To Midland, the band plays convoluted, proggy hard rock marked by a rare touch of finesse and warped song structures that manage to surprise every so often.

Despite the massive north-of-the-border success of the Tragically Hip, one of Canada’s rock ‘n’ roll crown jewels, is not a household name in this country. Even so, to say that The Hip, as their fans call them, do not have a fervent subterranean and expatriate following in the U.S. would be fallacious in the least.read more at austin360.com
