Per the jam-band model, Galactic has developed a substantial following by hitting the road hard and gussying up a formula fit for expansion. In Galactic’s case, that would be bluesy funk drizzled with acid-jazz, a cluttered go-go vibe, and stiff, Meters-like grooves. Tied to the history of its New Orleans hometown, the band mixes old and new without sounding overly beholden to either. The instrumental outfit is touring behind its new Anti- disc, From The Corner To The Block, which includes vocal turns from artists like Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na and The Coup’s Boots Riley, both of whom will appear here alongside Mr. Lif and Portland trio Lifesavas. Since it’s Halloween, Stubb’s will also be holding a $500 costume contest—and with a lineup built around rap this socially conscious, we recommend you rethink going as Lil Jon.
