Scout Niblett / brazos / silent sunset (bill baird of sound team)
Mon. 11/05 | 10:00PM @ Emo's (Downtown)
In addition to moving from England to California, singer-songwriter Scout Niblett jumped to the Too Pure label for her third album, 2005’s Kidnapped By Neptune, which was recorded by Steve Albini. Her starkly passionate folk-blues—which has been compared to everyone from Cat Power to PJ Harvey to Gillian Welch—has made her an indie favorite, and her live shows, which find Niblett trading between guitar and drums, can be both noisy and quietly moody. A recent EP includes the live favorite “Just Do It,” the surrealist “Dinosaur Egg” (based on the writings of spoken-word artist David Shrigley), and a so-crazy-it-might-just-work cover of The Cars’ “Just What I Needed” performed as a bizarre, stripped-down lament interrupted by riot-grrl fuzz. Even better, her new full-length This Fool Can Die Now features a few duets with Will Oldham. Opening: Brazos, Bill Baird And Silent Sunset.

Scout Niblett’s almost always compared to Cat Power, and her latest, This Fool Can Die Now (Too Pure), produced by Steve Albini and featuring Bonnie “Prince” Billy, is unlikely to slay that particular simile.read more at AustinChronicle.com
