Improv comedy is hard enough when it involves nothing more than a stage and a handful of audience suggestions. Leave it to the overachievers at ColdTowne to up the ante with its ambitious 3, 2, 1, KILL!, where the award-winning comedy troupe will use two camera crews, stage performances, and a live musician to write, direct, perform, and score a comedy movie in real time. On its own self-imposed clock, the gang will have exactly 10 minutes to make with the funny and flesh out a film based on ideas provided by audience participation, with the added excitement that only the possibility of something going very, very wrong can add.

Marshall McLuhan probably would have loved Barcelona’s The Pinker Tones, whose flippant all-points bulletin of funk, disco, hip-hop and stomping electronica is so, like, whatever to cultural borders that it practically its own global village. Taking the stage in matching outfits topped with blockish white-framed sunglasses, the unflappable Professor Manso and Mr. Furia trade ebullient verses in Spanish, French, German, and English over a mix of funk guitars, Moog squiggles, random samples, and spy-movie twang. Listening to last year’s The Million Colour Revolution and this year’s accompanying remix album, More Colors, is like being propositioned by a horny (but harmless) foreign exchange student: All his pickup lines are sorta lame, as is his insistence that you “make a party” with him, but still, you’ve never had so much fun on the dance floor.
