Ice Cube’s beloved stoner day-in-the-life comedy is more than just Dazed And Confused for black people, or the movie that gave the world Chris Tucker (gee, thanks!): It’s also a fascinating case study in how many different ways the words “fuck” and “shit” can be used without losing all meaning. (See also: The Wire.) On a recent Rolling Roadshow screening at the movie’s filming location, the city of Los Angeles requested that the potty language be taken out to protect the virgin ears of neighboring children, so Alamo Drafthouse owners Tim and Karrie League contacted good friend and Foley artist Buzz Moran to overdub the film and unwittingly struck comedy gold: Turns out the film is twice as funny with its mouth washed out. Come see for yourself at this special High For The Holidays screening that even your uptight, still-lingering relatives can enjoy. (Also Dec. 30)
