Six Organs of Admittance is a hefty name for a band, especially when that band is one man: Ben Chasney.
Started as a sort of basement psych-folk project in 1998, Six Organs has transformed into a legitimate indie mainstay. Chasney’s fan base grew exponentially when he joined the ranks of Drag City, the Chicago-based label that also hosts Bill Callahan, Edith Frost, Joanna Newsom, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Royal Trux, and released 2005’s “School of the Flower” and the subsequent “The Sun Awakens.” Now touring in support of 2007’s “Shelter From the Ash,” Six Organs of Admittance — Ben Chasney — performs with My Education and Headdress.

1984’s Revenge of the Nerds registered an important symbolic victory for outcasts everywhere and provided an easy headline for two decades worth of articles about Bill Gates. As progressive as it was, however, it isn’t far removed from the broad, crass lowbrow comedies of the time—for a major refinement on the same formula, try Real Genius the following year. The story of a preternaturally gifted brainiac learning about pranks and parties from his smartassed roomate (Val Kilmer, never more likeable) is sharp-toothed and surreal where Nerds is lazily prurient, and its affectation for its subjects is far more genuine: Nobody makes physics look as cool as Kilmer, whose wardrobe of ironic T-shirts and heatmiser hair practically invented indie-rock. This Quote-Along screening features subtitles on favorite lines (“Your mom puts license plates in your underwear?”) and surprises like lasers, Jell-O eating contests, and popcorn coming through the walls.
