1 7 46435 Self Portrait Painting show The Austin Figurative Gallery will hold it's next Self Portrait show Saturday March 1st, 2008. It's free to enter and if you can get your work onto a 20'' x 16'' vertically formatted unframed canvas you're in. We need the work at the Austin Figurative Gallery by February 29th. All ages and styles accepted.Last show had 100 artists and 150 paintings, you're allowed to enter more than one. Trading is encouraged. I traded with Jessee Hall at the last one. Each of these artists arrived independently here in Austin via Boston. Some of us were born and raised in the Boston area, while others moved there from elsewhere (drawn by the dazzling array of higher education)  before eventually settling in Austin. So many of us seem to travel the well worn path between these rhyming sister cities that we’re convinced there must be a special magnetic force between them. How does that force affect the wide range of paintings, sculpture, movies, wearable art and interactive objects produced by Boston Austin transplants? Using sinuous folds of draped fabric as her medium, Heinlein creates surprising structures full of elegance and moxie that invite the viewer to look beneath the surface. Swathed around hidden buttresses, assuming shapes ranging from quirky to austere, Heinlein's carefully choreographed cloth challenges our perceptions of traditional sculpture.
