1 20 104088 Evil Dead, The Musical Evil Dead, The Musical makes its Central Texas premiere this October at Salvage Vanguard Theatre in Austin. About the Show: With the approval of film director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell, a musical version of the film Evil Dead was staged. The musical takes creative liberty with the plot line of the cult film trilogy, mixing together the characters and concepts of all three. The original production enjoyed a successful run in Toronto and Montreal. The show went on to gain favorable responses from both critics and audiences during its 2006-2007 off-Broadway run. The musical has gone on to subsequent performances in Louisville, KY, Seoul, Korea, and Tokyo, Japan. When: October 9-31. Leslie Muchler investigates consumer desire and organization through digital drawing and collage. Using catalogue glossies from Crate & Barrel, Ikea, Pottery Barn, and others, she creates a, “hybrid-form of organization that speaks about the many tastes and design influences surrounding our consumer culture.”  The repetition, warping, and stretching of these ready made forms into landscapes and architecture creates the joining of contrasts. “I am designing hybrid storage systems- modular pieces that grow in response to collection, yet strive to minimize such expansion. This production takes a deeper look into the thread that runs though the human condition from the epic story of Exodus to a very personal struggle of finding individuality despite social norms. Each performance also include with a multi-media tribute to Chaddick’s childhood spent partially in northern India.   The premiere of Freefall will mark Chaddick Dance Theater’s second production in Austin since returning to Texas after 20 years of choreographing, performing and teaching in San Francisco. Chaddick Dance Theater’s debut Austin production in 2008, Second Wind, won two of her dancers nominations in “best dancer award” category from the Austin Critics’ Table Awards.   THE PROGRAM “Three for Violin” showcases the dancers’ sheer talent with luscious violin suites and serpentine movements. The multi-layered elements create a vibrant, uplifting piece and fully exhibit the dancers’ abilities. This piece will feature recordings by: The Lyric Quartet.   “The Watchful Sleeping Heart” symbolizes the story of the Book of Exodus, representing experiences of the unforgiving, unrelenting desert trek from the Torah and the Old Testament and—universally—the strength of the human will when seeking a better life. The dance is inspired by the exodus of the Israelites leaving Egypt and their wandering, confusion, death, challenges of faith, and relentless sacrifice for 40 years to seek freedom in the Promised Land. This piece is a reflection of fortitude and fight in seeking freedom as the sole reason for living and dying. This piece will feature recordings by: Maya Beiser, Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Morgan Doctor.   “I’m Your Lullaby” takes an unconventional look into the idiosyncrasies of those we love and those merely tolerated in a humorous but loving depiction of mannerism, labels, worries and impulses that create the individual presence. This work attempts to turn the mirror around to get a glimpse of the human struggle to stay authentic by adopting self-commitment. Sure, we can try to hate it for inspiring MEET THE SPARTANS, DISASTER MOVIE, SUPERHERO MOVIE, MOVIE PARODY MOVIE: THE MOVIE (man, I’d still pay money to see that last one) and every other box office comedy turd that they keep flushing down the throats of the mall theater going public. But god damn it, even though half of the movie is nothing but what should have been bad puns, each and every one just works so perfectly. Maybe it’s the brilliant send up of the overly dramatic disaster movies of the time. Maybe it’s Leslie Nielsen’s superb deadpanning. But my money is on the fact that it’s just plain hysterical to watch shit hit a fan.
