Few American bands command the kind of unconditional love granted to locals made good Voxtrot, which explains the vehement anti-backlash backlash that greeted early leaks of the band’s self-titled full-length debut last year—an album that has inspired the type of debate typically reserved for freshman philosophy classes and David Lynch films. Led by the affable Ramesh Srivastava, Voxtrot has rightfully earned comparisons to The Smiths, with whom it shares a knack for clever turns of phrase, and The Strokes, with whom Voxtrot shares an effortless ability to turn a roomful of otherwise aloof indie girls into salivating teenyboppers. The band plays an increasingly rare homecoming show here aided by two contenders to Voxtrot’s “next big thing” throne: Frequent playmates YellowFever, whose lead singer Jennifer Moore also offers the occasional laconic purr on Voxtrot’s songs; and the blissfully spaced-out Ringo Deathstarr.
