Anyone who thinks of Brazil as the land of Ipaneman dream girls and Sergio Mendes is overdue for a re-education. Coachella-bound Curitiban quartet Bonde do Rolê is the sonic equivalent of capoeira, a hip-hop head-butt that layers bilingual raps over metallic samples. Putting out fire with last year’s Gasolina, the recent Domino signees are on par with a five-day cachaça bender. Electro-geniuses the Death Set open. – Marc Savlov more at austinchronicle.com

Austin native Jon Dee Graham, whose work was featured in ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘Ladder 49,’ opens for headliner Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash. The Sons formed quickly and came to the spotlight even quicker. The band’s country twang mixed with Americana roots makes it an original to be heard for a while.

The Belmont hosts live music almost every day, and tonight is no exception. Lucas Cook is his real name, but one night he nervously introduced himself as ‘Lucas Cookus’ and the name stuck like glue. His funky blues-guitar sound courts his listeners.

Two of the buzzier bands at SXSW team up for a tour. Man Man plays a brassy, bent blues, while Yeasayer’s modified world-beat is reminiscent of Brian Eno’s work with Talking Heads.
