Punchline stand-up comedy | BYOB!

Punchline is the best show in town. No, silly, it's not the local middle school's production of Cats -- it's THE BEST SHOW IN TOWN! Punchline is not only BYOB, but it's a mere $5 to get in. Cheap. Date. City.

The show's fast-paced and ridiculous, awkward, hopefully hilarious, and always entertaining -- local comedians each get four minutes onstage to work their magic.

Radio Silence

VORTEX Repertory Company and Uprise! Productions proudly present the world premiere of Radio Silence: a word opera, a fresh-to-death new bullet in the chamber from award-winning playwright, Zell Miller III. Radio Silence: a word opera is a fast paced rhythmic ride. This hip-hop theater performance piece fuses the physicality of modern dance with high-energy spoken word and the sensibilities of street politics. This new word opera is a choreopoem that challenges and redefines taboos including race, sex, religion and politics, with the back-drop of a fading media: the radio.

(Thurs - Sun)

Lovey and Lovey

Lovey and Lovey—ColdTowne’s Michael Jastroch and Tami Nelson bring their award winning (Best of Fest 2005 Austin Sketch Festival and 2008 Frontera Fringe Fest) sketch comedy revue to the United States Art Authority Fridays in July. Lovey and Lovey trade in world-weary quips that follow in the grand tradition of The Thin Man's wet-whistled wits Nick and Nora. Over sweaty glasses of Dewars and a rapidly filling ashtray, Lovey and Lovey snarkily recount their shared worldly adventures in a modern take on the screwball comedy, trading the kind of stinging barbs and thinly veiled hostilities that are the hallmark of any successful marriage. Love, after all, is a many-splendored pain in the ass. Lovey and Lovey will be joined by Luna Tart, Ramirez and Gilstrap, McNichol and May and Le Sexy. Presented by ColdTowne Theater.

Dear Fraility

Written over a five-year span of artistic wandering, Dear Frailty is a mix of darkly comedic character monologues and absurdist performance pieces.
Sifting through his own thoughts and the lives of personalities that “may as well exist out there,” Simone revels in the utter failure to find any degree
of meaning in the predictability of human nature. Material ranges from his own perverse vision of what the future holds for capitalism as well as a
pyromaniac grocery store clerk with a profound dislike of the elderly.

Arthur Simone is an improvisational actor, abstract expressionist artist and advocate of the culture of spontaneity. His artwork has been shown at
galleries such as Chicago's Echo Gallery and art festivals such as Around the Coyote and the East Austin Studio Tour. Arthur's artwork has been
twice a nominated finalist for the prestigious Hunting Art Prize. A graduate of Oberlin College and a veteran of the Chicago stage with Suspicious
Clowns and Moving Dock Theatre, he is a co-founder of Austin's ColdTowne Theater, where he teaches sketch, improv, and acting. On the screen,
Arthur has starred in Jigsaw, The Evil One, A&E's Faith of My Fathers, Big Momma's House 2, and has been featured on the series Friday Night
Lights. In 2007, he won the O'Henry Pun-Off World Championships (left), Austin's regional Air Guitar Championship, and most recently the Alamo
Drafthouse's Air Sex World Championship.

Pride and Prejudice

Shows: November 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20 at 8:00 PM
November 15, 22 at 2:00 PM

The University of Texas Department of Theatre and Dance presents Jane Austen’s classic novel adapted for the stage, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, November 13 – 22, 2009, at the B. Iden Payne Theatre.

James Maxwell's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is an adaptation of Jane Austen's timeless novel, originally published in 1813. The highly plot-driven comedy of manners set in 1811 centers on the Bennet family, a comfortable, but not excessively wealthy family living in the countryside of England. As the Bennets have five daughters and no sons, Mrs. Bennet's main objective in life is to find (wealthy) husbands for her daughters and retain Longbourn, the family estate, in the Bennet name. When Jane, the eldest daughter, falls in love with a wealthy landowner named Charles Bingle, Mrs. Bennet believes her problems solved. Bingly's snobbish family and his close friend and acquaintance Fitzwilliam Darcy, however, have other ideas.

"Maxwell’s fast-paced version of Austen’s classic novel captures the wit, grace, and anxieties of the familiar story and focuses the action on Elizabeth—a period character who nevertheless remains intimately recognizable to modern audiences says PhD in Performance as Public Practice candidate and dramaturg, Christina Gutierrez. "Given the wealth of both recent and historical adaptations of Austen, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE offers at once a classic and a refreshing re-telling of a story that has so informed our cultural notions of love."

Gnap! Theater Projects Presents Lola

Starting in February, we're adding 8 pm shows to our lineup in the newly refurbished second stage at SVT. Our first prime time run is a show called Lola. Inspired by the structure of the film Run, Lola, Run*, we'll be improvising the same narrative three times, with three radically different outcomes based on the slightest changes in causal incidents.

This show plays Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, from February 6th through March 14th.

The crackerjack rotating cast is made up of:

Shannon McCormick
Shana Merlin
Ace Manning
Michael Joplin
Topping Haggerty
Jason Vines
Marc Majcher
Eric Heiberg
Audrey Sansom
&
Craig Kotfas
(with an occasional guest performer)
Visit www.gnaptheater.org for more information.

*please note that despite the poster, there will be no red wig in this show
