Bring water, umbrellas, blankets, food, your knitting and friends.   This event is free! Do not bring a lawn chair unless you need it for mobility purposes. Info from the international site: WWKiP Day is unique, in that it's the largest knitter run event in the world. Each local event is put together by a volunteer or a group of volunteers. They each organize an event because they want to, not because they have to. In the past some people have used this event as a means to show the general public that ‘not only grannies knit!’ and while that’s great and all, keep in mind that without those ‘grannies’ we wouldn’t have the wealth of knitting knowledge that we do. WWKiP Day is really about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way. In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on WWKiP Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss. Now and Tomorrow, now in its’ 5th year, celebrates the visual and material culture of Austin area youth, featuring drawings, paintings and ceramic work.   Students from the following schools will be included in this year’s exhibition; Reagan High School, Hill Country Middle School, The University of Texas at Austin Elementary School, Maplewood Elementary School, Fannie Mae Caldwell Elementary School, Forest Trail Elementary School, Ridgetop Elementary School and the Greater Tomorrow Youth Art Program.    The exhibition, Now and Tomorrow, is produced by Greater Tomorrow Summer Art Program, an outreach program in the Visual Art Studies Division of the Department of Art and Art History, at the University of Texas at Austin. Greater Tomorrow provides supplementary art experiences for K-12 students in the public schools and within community settings. These activities provide youth participants with non-linear creative exercises that relate to everyday life experiences. Greater Tomorrow uses art education as a means of fostering analytic thinking processes that are necessary for balanced intellectual development. Greater Tomorrow also provides in-service and in-training to art teachers. Greater Tomorrow was established in 2002 by the Visual Art Studies Division of the Department of Art and Art History and the College of Fine Arts (COFA) at the University of Texas at Austin in collaboration with school art teachers, students, school administrators, community-based organizations, philanthropic organizations, professional artists, private citizens, and community leaders in Austin. Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions of work by students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, and also facilitates workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars, and collaborations. Creative Research Laboratory is located in east Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, inside Flatbed World Headquarters. There is ample free parking and bus service available on Capital Metro's Route 18.
