1 7 70434 Five Things Austin FIVE THINGS COMES TO AUSTIN Get ready for an evening of hilarious Austin writers, comedians, and songsters as Five Things makes its Austin debut at 7pm on September 12! Join Owen Egerton (named Best Austin Writer 2007 by The Austin Chronicle!), singer/songwriter Southpaw Jones, and writers Jack Kaulfus, Stacy Muszynski, and Tim Kerlin as they boldly go where no Austin artist has gone lately! Five Things challenges five funny people to create a prop-based piece of art and present it in spectacular fashion. This month's theme is The Dollar Store, with our brave local talent bringing us songs and stories based off five things purchased from the Dollar General. Located at the beautiful Do512 office in South Austin, the show will be followed by an outdoor performance by local lyricists Melody Murder (http://www.melodymurder.com). In this one-woman, multi-media and bilingual show, Rodriguez performs songs made famous in the 1940s – 1960s by her aunt, Tejana singer, Eva Garza, the renowned “Sweetheart of the Americas.”     Canciones for Generations speaks to issues of family, culture and community through music and comedy. In this light-hearted approach to the complexity of growing up Latino in America, Rodriguez offers cultural education for the whole family, no matter what their cultural make-up. Beginning with a beauty pageant, Rodriguez takes the audience along as she journeys through a quiz show to answer “Is she, or is she not, a coconut?” referring to the concept of being brown on the outside, but white on the inside.
