Dear Fraility

Written over a five-year span of artistic wandering, Dear Frailty is a mix of darkly comedic character monologues and absurdist performance pieces.
Sifting through his own thoughts and the lives of personalities that “may as well exist out there,” Simone revels in the utter failure to find any degree
of meaning in the predictability of human nature. Material ranges from his own perverse vision of what the future holds for capitalism as well as a
pyromaniac grocery store clerk with a profound dislike of the elderly.

Arthur Simone is an improvisational actor, abstract expressionist artist and advocate of the culture of spontaneity. His artwork has been shown at
galleries such as Chicago's Echo Gallery and art festivals such as Around the Coyote and the East Austin Studio Tour. Arthur's artwork has been
twice a nominated finalist for the prestigious Hunting Art Prize. A graduate of Oberlin College and a veteran of the Chicago stage with Suspicious
Clowns and Moving Dock Theatre, he is a co-founder of Austin's ColdTowne Theater, where he teaches sketch, improv, and acting. On the screen,
Arthur has starred in Jigsaw, The Evil One, A&E's Faith of My Fathers, Big Momma's House 2, and has been featured on the series Friday Night
Lights. In 2007, he won the O'Henry Pun-Off World Championships (left), Austin's regional Air Guitar Championship, and most recently the Alamo
Drafthouse's Air Sex World Championship.

Christmas Belles

Theater- Christmas Belles features a comedy show where the Futrell sisters attempt to pull together a church Christmas program while battling each other, hot flashes, a surly Santa and a vengeful sheep. What more could go wrong? The entire cast of the Fayro Christmas pageant is dropping out like flies due to food poisoning at the Band Boosters' Pancake Supper. While dealing with a Santa who has kidney stones, a shepherd who must have his little red wagon, and a reluctant Elvis impersonator who must guard the manger, Frankie Futrelle lets slip a family secret that has been carefully guarded for decades.

November 28 through December 14. Performances are 8:00 on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 on Sundays. Our playhouse is a visible statement for the arts in central Wimberley. Conveniently located near the Village Square, the 5,500 sq. ft. Wimberley Playhouse seats 117. Anyone interested in theatre may become a member of the Players by paying modest annual dues.

Pride and Prejudice

Shows: November 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20 at 8:00 PM
November 15, 22 at 2:00 PM

The University of Texas Department of Theatre and Dance presents Jane Austen’s classic novel adapted for the stage, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, November 13 – 22, 2009, at the B. Iden Payne Theatre.

James Maxwell's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is an adaptation of Jane Austen's timeless novel, originally published in 1813. The highly plot-driven comedy of manners set in 1811 centers on the Bennet family, a comfortable, but not excessively wealthy family living in the countryside of England. As the Bennets have five daughters and no sons, Mrs. Bennet's main objective in life is to find (wealthy) husbands for her daughters and retain Longbourn, the family estate, in the Bennet name. When Jane, the eldest daughter, falls in love with a wealthy landowner named Charles Bingle, Mrs. Bennet believes her problems solved. Bingly's snobbish family and his close friend and acquaintance Fitzwilliam Darcy, however, have other ideas.

"Maxwell’s fast-paced version of Austen’s classic novel captures the wit, grace, and anxieties of the familiar story and focuses the action on Elizabeth—a period character who nevertheless remains intimately recognizable to modern audiences says PhD in Performance as Public Practice candidate and dramaturg, Christina Gutierrez. "Given the wealth of both recent and historical adaptations of Austen, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE offers at once a classic and a refreshing re-telling of a story that has so informed our cultural notions of love."

Starting in February, we're adding 8 pm shows to our lineup in the newly refurbished second stage at SVT. Our first prime time run is a show called Lola.
The Gifts of the Magi

Theater- The Gifts of the Magi features a heart-warming, captivating musical treat, drawn from two short stories by the immortal O. Henry. The show is warmed by sentiment and humor, filled with lifting songs, and certain to please audiences of all ages.

Plot- It is Christmas in New York, but for two young lovers, Jim and Della, the prospects are bleak, as both are out of work and penniless. But their dilemma is solved when both part with their most precious possessions (she her beautiful long hair, he his heirloom pocket watch) in order to buy presents for each other thereby creating, at least for a magical moment, an aura of warmth and giving in the cold, impersonal winter city.

In addition to their story there are glimpses of various city folk going about their holiday business, and the hilarious plight of a cheerful bum named Soapy, who wants only to get arrested so he can spend the night in a cozy cell, all gracefully enhanced by tuneful songs and neatly tied together by a newsboy-narrator, Willy, who adds his own melodious contribution and informative observations to the delightful proceedings.

Performances November 28th - December 21st from Thursday - Sunday. Sundays @ 2:00 p.m. All other shows @ 7:30 p.m.
