Sifting through his own thoughts and the lives of personalities that “may as well exist out there,” Simone revels in the utter failure to find any degree of meaning in the predictability of human nature. Material ranges from his own perverse vision of what the future holds for capitalism as well as a pyromaniac grocery store clerk with a profound dislike of the elderly. Arthur Simone is an improvisational actor, abstract expressionist artist and advocate of the culture of spontaneity. His artwork has been shown at galleries such as Chicago's Echo Gallery and art festivals such as Around the Coyote and the East Austin Studio Tour. Arthur's artwork has been  twice a nominated finalist for the prestigious Hunting Art Prize. A graduate of Oberlin College and a veteran of the Chicago stage with Suspicious Clowns and Moving Dock Theatre, he is a co-founder of Austin's ColdTowne Theater, where he teaches sketch, improv, and acting. On the screen, Arthur has starred in Jigsaw, The Evil One, A&E's Faith of My Fathers, Big Momma's House 2, and has been featured on the series Friday Night Lights. 98694 Workspace: Jim Drain The Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin is pleased to present I Will Show You The Woe-Joy Man, a multi-media installation by Miami-based artist Jim Drain. The latest in the museum's WorkSpace series, Drain's installation will feature a new series of video vignettes (some of which are currently being filmed in Austin with the help of local artists) showing mysterious performances amidst found objects, recycled equipment and building supplies. The videos will be arranged and screened in a dense sculptural environment that Drain has created in the gallery. Subjects ranging from sci-fi fantasy, ancient myths, philosophy, music, ruminations on architecture and survival, and the forests outside Berlin all inform what is sure to be a memorable new commission. There will be a soft opening for the installation, with the artist in attendance, on Friday, July 3, during the Blanton's monthly art party, <a href="http://www.finearts.utexas.edu/bma/experience_the_blanton/b_scene/index.cfm">B scene</a>. As part of the museum's “Artistic License” series, Drain will return to Austin on October 15 for a 7 PM lecture. <h2 class="bm0" style="text-align: center;">ABOUT THE ARTIST:</h2> Jim Drain was born in 1975 in Cleveland and currently resides in Miami. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he received a BFA in sculpture in 1998. He was included in the 2002 Whitney Biennial and in the 7th Biennale d'art Contemporain de Lyon in France in 2003. Drain is a founding member of, and exhibits regularly with the artist collective, Forcefield.
