Essayist and author David Sedaris (the brother of Strangers With Candy’s Amy Sedaris) rose to national fame on the strength of “The Santaland Diaries,” a much-loved account of his humiliating experiences as a department-store elf that began as a radio monologue for National Public Radio and has since been included in two of his books. He’s just released his sixth book of autobiographical essays, When You Are Engulfed In Flames, which covers everything from buying drugs in rural North Carolina to quitting smoking in Tokyo. He’ll read and sign copies of his books at this guaranteed-to-be-packed BookPeople appearance; the first 500 people to buy copies of Flames will actually be able to see Sedaris, while the rest will have to settle for hearing him through PA speakers.
