FALL 2022

The Treasury

Hidden inside Shangri-La

Make your way into the back patio, behind their shed and under a green light, you'll find a secret door. As long as the no vacancy sign stays off, you're good to go underground to secretly sip cocktails... at a cocktail bar. The need for speakeasies are long gone, but the thrill of being " in the know" has taken over as the perogative for sneaking off to get a drink. Avoid the commoners who choose to drink at the main bar and experience a sense of refined exclusivity in a bank vault themed basement.

Skinny's Off Track Bar

1806 E. 12th st

if your beer-drinking, cigarette-chain-smoking uncle with a 60-year-old bachelor pad was turned into a bar, it would be Skinny's. Moving in next door to Outer Heaven, Skinny's acts as the well-worn counter to their shiny neighbor. Evoking the accidental aesthetics of New York off-track betting parlors, this bar germanates seediness of a time long gone. While no actual betting will take place inside, there will be sports playing for you to passively watch as you nurse a Sunkist Cooler ( Tito's, Sunkist Orange Soda, & House Whipped Cream) While munching on some Buffalo Cheese Curds. Wondering if your uncle had life all figured out after all.

Howard's Bar & Club

1130 West Sixth St

Adding more vibrance to the sleeper side of Sixth Street, Howard's Bar & Club brings the air of an all-night (ish) city further beyond the limits of downtown. Riding the wave of blending high brow with low, you'll find a Guinness mingling with a Hotel Nacional cocktail and a Chicago-style hot dog hanging out next to a plate of caviar & chips. It's a permanent party where everyone can feel welcome under their disco ball.

Rosie's Wine Bar

1130 West Sixth St

Resting above a brick patio off Blanco St, Rosie's Wine Bar exudes an old-world charm. Despite being so new, it feels like it's always been a part of the neighborhood under it's canopy of red & white awnings. Slowly sip a glass of wine from the always rotating list of bottles from Spain, Portugal, and France as you bite into a baguette, contemplating if you can budget a trip to explore Porto.

Room 725

Inside Fairmont

The one room you can't sleep in at the Fairmont, Room 725 is a sneaky champagne, caviar, and cigar bar hidden away in the massive hotel downtown. Packed inside are several caviars to sample with an endless supply of champagne with a selection of pre-embargo Cuban cigars to finish off the air of secretive sophistication.

Tellus

3108 Windsor Rd

Sister to the Beer Plant, Tellus Joe & Tellus ( the am & pm spots respectively) are a 100% plant-based joint. Serving organic coffee and vegan tacos in the morning, Tellus Joe becomes an Oaxacan nighttime spot after the sun sets. Spend an evening enjoying agave spirits, natural wines, and vegan cocktails.

SUMMER 2022

In Plain Sight

Brazos & 7th St

Not in the mood for a shot bar with a crowd of a thousand drunk kids scream fighting? Fair, so maybe an 8-seat bar by our local speakeasy golden child Here Nor There would fare better. Once you find your way inside, enjoy Italian cocktails with a European flavor far from the rough and wild bars off Sixth St.

Eden Cocktail Room

214 E. 6th Street

As Dirty Sixth continues to drive itself further into a hellscape, more and more bars are cropping up to offer sanctuary. Eden, from the mind of former Here Nor There bartender Chris Crow, offers a delicate mix of vice and virtue for those looking for salvation from the shot bars. Paying homage to the original sinner herself, Eve. Saunter over to Eden and sink into a red velvet sofa as you sip a boutique cocktail and feel like you found your sinful heaven.

Kinfolk Lounge & Library

303 B Red River St

Moonshine Grill downtown has expanded their offerings to now include a cocktail lounge with a library, but it's not books on their shelves. They're offering a full spirits selection to line the shelves as if the Dewey decimal system was made to organize bottles of gin, vodka, whiskey, rum,  and whatever other liquor they choose to stock. Revitalizing a historic cellar from the 1850s, the sense of hard work and long hours seeps through the walls of this carefully curated cocktail lounge.
