Transmission Entertainment is pleased to announce the lineup for the 2009 Fun Fun Fun Fest, taking place on November 7th and 8th at Waterloo Park in Austin. Fun Fun Fun Fest made its first appearance on a cold Friday evening in 2006, offering a unique approach to festival booking, filling stages with talent bubbling from the underground: what sounded great, and what was making an impact, regardless of what mainstream media said was cool. What started out as a show for a few touring acts and local favorites has become a movement --  a festival that fans and bands alike realize needs to be experienced year after year. Now in its fourth year, Fun Fun Fun Fest has made a significant impact on the country’s winter calendar, successfully combining the vast worlds of indie, punk, rap, electronica and comedy while showcasing some of the city’s most unique local businesses. It is the most relaxed, laid back and (yet) progressive festival in the market place today, a true urban event in the middle of downtown Austin. Most importantly it’s a fest we in the music community want to go to, without all of the filler that shows up at corporate music carnivals around the world. Fun Fun Fun Fest: the fest before the fest ... where you go to see what’s about to happen as opposed to what's already been done. Each year, fans have been treated to sets by reunited legends as well as prominent acts from across the globe at the festival. And this edition is no different – music aficionados will be eagerly awaiting performances by DEATH, The Jesus Lizard, Shonen Knife, Mission of Burma, and Danzig. Of Montreal, King Khan & BBQ Show, GZA, No Age, Young Widows, Ratatat, Yeasayer, and The Cool Kids ensure that a wide variety of relevant artists will again be on display, and as always, Austin is well represented, this year by the likes of Shearwater, Foot Patrol, Black and White Years, The Laughing, Harlem, and Strange Boys. Very much like the name suggests: a trivia quiz game played in a pub. It's an Anglo-Irish tradition, but our goal is the same: to foster friendly cerebral competition and promote social drinking (and eating) in a relaxed environment. How does it work? The quiz consists of eight rounds of eight questions and is played in teams of up to six people. Questions are read aloud by the quizmaster; teams write their answers on provided sheets and turn them in at the end of each round. The team with the most points after eight rounds is the winner. Uh, isn’t this just “bar trivia?” Only in the same way your Grandma’s cooking is equivalent to The Sizzler’s buffet because, ya know, they’re both just “dinner.” The short answer is, of course, NO! 106069 Playing in Traffic Presents: Speak and The Steps @ Threadgill's The Steps Born under the influence of classic rock in the Live Music Capital of the World, The Steps chisel through modern rock with 60’s sensibilities. The band achieved international success with their first releases: a 7″ vinyl single brought by Young and Lost Club Records (UK) in 2007, and their eponymous debut LP on Kurofune Records (Japan) in 2008. Continuing with long time producer, Chris “Frenchie” Smith (JET, Explosions in the Sky, The Dandy Warhols), The Steps’ first U.S. release, Take It All In, hits stores July 21st. On July 21, the Austin rockers will release Take It All In, produced by Chris “Frenchie” Smith (JET, Dandy Warhols, Explosions in the Sky). The EP distills the band’s 60’s influenced garage rock to it’s most potent and frenetic form. Formed in 2005 while still in high school, The Steps first achieved international success with releases and tours in the UK and Japan. Launched by a strong Texas following, the band has shared the stage with Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, and the Black Keys at major festivals Austin City LImits (2007 and 2008), North American Music Union in Pittsburgh, and South by Southwest. SPEAK Troupe Gammage (vocals/keys), Nick Hurt (guitars/vocals), Joey Delahoussaye (bass/vocals), and Jake Stewart (drums). Avid students of pop through the ages, the band distills greatness from classic and modern influences. Forever questing for innovation, SPEAK invoke timeless melodies in energetic, synth-laden anthems.
