The building that holds the 290 West grill was built around 1840. It was once the Cedar Valley Post Office located on the corner of Fitzhugh and 290 West. When Austin annexed Cedar Valley, the building was bought and turned into a store. Later it was moved across the street where it turned into its first incarnation as a honky tonk. Later the club moved a mile west of its current location and became a number of things from a honkytonk, a store and a whorehouse.
