Rachel Feinstein grew up in Washington D.C. as the daughter of a civil rights lawyer and a blues musician who goes by "Hurricane Howie." Rachel opened for him as a kid, doing impersonations of various loud, jarring relatives.

Brent Weinbach w/ Moshe Kasher

If you like your stand-up smart, adventurous, quirky and sometimes surreal, you’ll love Brent Weinbach. The evidence to back up this perhaps overly-glib assurance is plentiful in his career mileposts--both positive and not-so-positive. For example, he’s appeared at HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, been spotlighted as a “Name To Watch” in New York Magazine, has performed as sort of an adjunct member of The Comedians Of Comedy, the ultra-talented and bright brigade of stand-up comics (Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, Zach Galifianakis form the core) featured in the acclaimed documentary film of the same name and performing at select venues and festivals; indeed, Brent joined the COC for a show at 2007’s internationally-renowned Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival. Another 2007 festival appearance--not tied to the COC; he landed this one just by his lonesome--was at Bumbershoot, Seattle’s venerable (it started in 1971) music and arts festival, sharing a stage with Eugene Mirman and “Saturday Night Live’s” Fred Arnisen and on a bill also featuring the likes of Greg Proops and Janeane Garofalo. Gee, this all sounds thoroughly impressive and positive--where are the not-so-positive mileposts you started off talking about? Oh, yeah, well most of the Weinbach saga is positive and impressive, including--in terms of his comedy artistry--what might otherwise be viewed as a setback: In March of 2006, he taped a stand-up set on “The Late, Late Show With Craig Ferguson,” which apparently went well, generated a strong audience response--but a CBS executive “didn’t get it,” and Brent’s set was not aired. Yikes! There are a hundred things one might say about that experience, but the first is that this puts him in pretty good company of comedians whose sets were excised from late-night network television. (Did someone say Bill Hicks?) . Or as Time Out New York phrased all this far more succinctly: “weird, scary, hilarious.”

The Chinaman' Mark Britten

If you want something different, some comedy with spice, then Mark Britten--”Chinaman”--is the way to go. His impressions are legendary: Musically, from Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas to Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Mark’s act grabs you right from the get go and doesn’t let you out of his hilarious grip ‘til he’s done at least 45 minutes of laugh-ab workout. The Austin Chronicle described Britten as a "a rock star trapped in a comic’s body." You also may know The Chinaman from his multiple visits on “The Bob & Tom” nationally-syndicated radio show--they love the Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonations! Among his other impressions that are crowd favorites are Dave Matthews, Garth Brooks, Eddie Vedder and the B-52s. He also voices seven characters of “Dragonballz” on the Cartoon Network, and has released a comedy CD, entitled “Dis-Oriented Chinaman.” And his act is hardly just confined to voices and music. He also weaves in material mocking his Chinese heritage and other observations, including such probing questions as “If a vegetarian bites his lip, does he feel guilty?”

Eddie Gossling w/ Shannon Paul

Eddie Gossling was born in Johnson City, New York, but you'd swear it was actually Austin, based on the response he gets here at Cap City -it's like he's a native, a local boy made good, a dignitary with the key to the city and an alt- celebrity, all rolled into one. But mostly what he is, and how we ultimately account for that response, comes down to this: Eddie is immensely funny, an incredibly talented guy who's worked extremely hard, and now ever time he sets foot on the Cap City stage (or any other stage, for that matter), he's a riveting, hilarious presence who brings the house down in riotous fashion. That's a long way from the motley assortment of jobs--including horseradish inspector and junior accountant for a meat factory--that preceded his initial foray into stand-up, starting out in San Antonio. And even though Eddie is such a favorite son at Cap City--harking back to the years where he worked as the club's house emcee--we can't help think of him as our own, people everywhere have noticed what a stellar stand-up he's become, and embraced him accordingly. Not just club audiences, but showbiz types in important places. For example, as far back as 1995, he won HBO's 'Stand-Up Standoff' Comic Relief VII competition, and in 1997 he took first places in the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival talent search. That was followed by acclaimed appearances at the Chicago Comedy Festival, and then came a pretty singular triumph on the festival circuit: Booked a few summers ago at the Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival in Montreal--widely considered the biggest, most prestigious comedy event in the world--he became the first act in the festival's history to perform on both their 'New Faces' show and on the high-profile the televised 'Gala' show. More recently, he was invited to Just For Laughs to perform on a number of shows, and hosted a few shows at the festivals highest-profile venue, Club Soda.

Matt Sadler w/ Trey Galyon

You often hear music buffs marveling at the enormous number of bands and musical artists spawned by the Austin local scene--it is impressive, and if this were a music club, we’d probably address this phenomenon in gushing terms and excruciating detail. But this is a comedy club, so I hope it’s okay if we instead speak of a similar, if less splashy scenario: The Austin comedy scene has likewise produced some uniquely gifted and highly successful funny folks--Johnny Hardwick (voice of “King Of The Hill’s” Dale and former writer-producer on that show) and Howard Kremer and Brad “Chip” Pope (stars of “Austin Stories,” co-writers of various HBO & other network pilots and shows) come quickly to mind. Matt Sadler is clearly another comedian who will extend the Austin tradition of local boys (& girls) making very good. Matt has lived in Austin for more than a dozen years (given the steady influx of artistic types who move here, this practically makes him a native), and took his first steps into professional joke-telling right here in Austin. After a number of years of very hard work--honing the performance, steadily writing new material, hitting the road to further develop his craft--he’s now a seasoned pro, with a slew of credits and accomplishments to do Austin proud. Examples? What is it with you pushy people? OK, keep your shirt on, I’ll give you examples--don’t I always? Heck, as far back as the late ‘90s--OK, very late: 1999--he was distinguishing himself locally and demonstrating he could play in the big leagues, when HBO conducted a talent search that drew more than 100 comedians, Matt was selected the best of the bunch, and flown out to Hollywood to hold forth there at the Improv. More recently, in 2005 to be exact, that experience was echoed somewhat during the Carnival Comedy Challenge--about 75 comics were vying in that contest, and if you’ve already figured out Matt took first place here, too, you’re starting to get the hang of this--and damn near as sharp as Matt is, if you don’t mind me saying so. (Even if you do.) So it probably goes without saying there are plenty of other triumphs in Matt’s career dossier. For instance, beyond the more obvious and expected crisscrossing of these United States to develop his skill and experience, he’s also toured overseas, performing for the military in the Middle East and Asia, his TV credits include the aforementioned “Austin Stories,” he’s a very funny man and did I mention that he’s an Austinite? Come out this week and support one of our own. With Trey Galyon

Juston McKinney w/ Bryson Turner

Juston McKinney was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in June of 1970. On that same day, New York Police Officer Frank Serpico was testifying before the Knapp Commission to clean up police corruption in the New York City Police Department.

He spent his elementary years at the Little Harbor School before moving across the bridge into Kittery Maine in the fifth grade. His favorite show was CHiPs, and he knew he was destined to become a cop. He grew up around cops, as they were always over at his house, arresting his dad. He attended high school at Traip Academy, and after graduation, he decided to further his education. He was accepted to the prestigious Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute (S.M.V.T.I). Only the select few who are able to fill out an application can get in.

At age 19 he was hired by the York County Sheriff’s Department as a rural patrol deputy. Although too young to buy his own bullets, he loved his job which included patrolling 14 towns and 500 square miles. He prided himself on being a good, honest cop. After a couple of years he began teaching the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program, splitting time between the streets and the classroom.

After telling kids to stay away from drugs and to get on with their dreams, he decided to follow his own advice. In the mid 90s he moved to Boston to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. He stayed on as a part time member of his department driving up to Maine to work patrol around his comedy gigs.

In 1997, he had to resign from his department after seven years of service when his comedy career took him to New York City. The move seemed to pay off as he became a regular performer at the Comic Strip, Stand-up New York, Dangerfield’s, Caroline’s on Broadway and the Gotham Comedy Club.

He signed with a Los Angeles-based agent and shortly after, in 1998, signed a six-figure development deal with Warner Brothers to write and star in his own sitcom. The show never made it but the next year he signed an even bigger deal with CBS Productions. Unfortunately, the arrival of reality TV such as Survivor and Big Brother meant he had the wrong TV show at the wrong time, and although it was extremely close, the show never got on the air. The sudden financial reward of having two development deals would seem to have set Juston up well. However, while in New York, he befriended a waiter at Dangerfield’s Comedy Club who was a part-time stock broker. The waiter/stock broker talked him into putting almost all his money in the market. Very shortly after, in 2000, the market crashed, which left him with virtually nothing. Juston likes to perform on stage because that appears to be the only place he has good timing. Some free financial advice from Juston, “Never give hundreds of thousands of dollars to a waiter. You’re supposed to give waiters tips, not take tips from waiters.”

n 2001, he moved to Los Angeles and became a regular performer at the Improv. In 2002 he performed both stand-up and his one-man show, My Brother’s Father at the US comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado. While there he was awarded the “Listerene Clean Mouth Award” which honored his talent and clean style of comedy. Later that year he made his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Over the past couple years he has made a return appearance on The Tonight Show and a guest star appearance on the CBS hit The King of Queens. He has appeared numerous times on Comedy Central on shows such as Premium Blend, Reel Comedy, Comic Remix and Shorties Watchin' Shorties. Juston is currently living in Los Angeles performing weekly at clubs and colleges all over the country.
