The Story Behind Nettie’s cloth & ink.
Although it started out as one, this is not your ordinary trailer.
For years I had been working on my project/my dream from home— from crammed NYC apartments to small city houses—in my free time & on the side of priorities like school and other jobs. No matter the size of the space, I began to outgrow my work environment along the way. Upon moving to Austin, I became able to work for myself full-time and concentrate on the growth of my business. At that point, I did outgrow my home-work-space. And so, Nettie’s Cloth & Ink was born!
My sweetheart, Sean, a true jack-of-all-trades, found a trailer for sale out in the country that fit our price range- A 25 ft 1970’s Coachmen that was pretty beat up, but all we could afford.
We tried to restore it and long story short, it was worse than we had ever imagined. So Sean detached the deteriorated trailer shell from the frame, wrapped some chain around it, hooked it up to the truck, hit the gas, and it all came crumbling down with no problem at all… We were relieved to find that the metal frame beneath was solid and usable.
And then the massive building project began. Built like a house, but on wheels, Sean had inherited quite a project. Having worked with builders, carpenters, and welders before, he had a rough idea of what to do. Of course by the end of this project, he knew so much more.
Every part of this trailer was built with a purpose and holds a memory for Sean and I, and our friends and family who so selflessly gave their time to help this dream become reality. The process of it’s actualization has been one of the most significant and important experiences of our lives.
It is truly a Custom Trailer, and hopefully you’ll feel the same about the product inside. Come visit and see what we made!
