Quack’s 43rd
Street Bakery is the present incarnation of Captain Quackenbush’s
Intergalactic Dessert Company and Espresso Café which opened for
business on the Drag, across the street from the University of Texas at
Austin, back in 1983. Over the years, our long name was truncated by our
patrons and consequently we’ve formally shortened it to Quack’s.
Quack’s
was the first coffeehouse in Austin. We originally served espresso
coffee drinks only, a less than subtle attempt to introduce our
customers to espresso based drinks. We’ve long ago relented and now
offer drip brewed coffee and more recently French-pressed coffee in
addition to our espresso line. The coffee beans that we use are never
frozen. They’re freshly roasted here in Austin, Texas, not Italy,
Seattle or even Houston. We serve our coffee in ceramic, glass, or paper
cups. Fairly traded organic coffees are also available. Our prices are
moderate.
Quack’s
line of bakery products grew out of a need to provide freshly baked
products for our customers. With the exception of the bagels that we
carry, all the baked items sold here are made here from scratch. We use
high quality natural ingredients which contain no trans-fats. We use no
frozen dough or mixes. Our products contain no preservatives, additives
or emulsifiers. We service many wholesale accounts that elect to serve
their customers better quality baked goods in lieu of more commonly
available, less expensive commercial products.
