Art Seen presents the first MAKE Out Session, a monthly gathering for all things DIY.

Our inaugural event will be held at the eclectic Spider House Cafe, with inspiration provided by Greater Austin Garbage Arts (GAGA).Create your own Halloween costume or anything you feel moved to make.Need ideas? We'll have several projects underway including costumes, a Rubens tube, and more. We'll also have free Make magazines on hand!

Share your craftiest concepts with other makers and enjoy drink specials all evening!

CITIZINE presents an AUSTIN COMMUNITY POLITICAL FORUM on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28th at SPIDER HOUSE CAFÉ.

“Before you vote, join the debate!” The public is invited to submit questions for a panel of community activists representing a wide of spectrum of political parties.

AUSTIN October 7, 2008 – CITIZINE magazine (www.CITIZINEmag.com), Austin’s new music and community news publication, presents the first-ever COMMUNITY POLITICAL FORUM on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28TH at the Spider House Café (2908 Fruth Street, Austin, TX 78705). The forum begins at 7:00 p.m. and the suggested donation is $5.00. This event is open to the public, and attendees are invited to arrive early to submit potential questions for the panel.

The forum will feature local candidates and activists representing a variety of political parties, and it’s happening just one week before the general election on November 4th. Some of those who have confirmed to appear on the panel include:

Constitution Party • Erica Grignon, Travis County coordinator

Green Party • kat swift, Co-chair, Green Party Texas

Libertarian Party • Wes Benedict, candidate for Travis County Commissioner, Precinct 3

Republican Party • Don Zimmerman, candidate for Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector

Independents • Debbie Russell, local coordinator for Nader/Gonzalez campaign

The panel discussion will be moderated by Scott Horton, assistant editor of the news & commentary web site Antiwar.com, and host of Antiwar Radio. The non-profit organization TEXANS FOR ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNMENT (TAG) (www.tagtexas.org) is also providing sponsorship for this event. TAG members’ aim is to “Advance the cause of liberty through local, non-partisan activism.”

The ground rules of this forum are set up to be as fair as possible to all members of the panel. Any question selected will be asked to the entire panel, and each representative will have equal time to respond.

The focus will be on issues affecting the people of Travis County, Texas, and beyond. The public is encouraged to offer questions on the economy, the environment, transportation, housing, immigration, taxes, schools, corruption, and social issues.

This political forum aims to bring together community activists with a variety of potential solutions to the issues that are affecting people in Austin. The purpose is primarily educational, and as an occasion to hear alternative points of view and meet other community activists. This COMMUNITY POLITICAL FORUM is made possible with the support from independent businesses who have advertised in CITIZINE, including: Backspin Records, Brave New Books, Southside Flying Pizza, Sonny’s Vintage, Hoboken Pie, Liberty Stickers, Marx Auto Service, Musicmakers, Austin Stereo Service, Maine Root Beer, I.T. The current print version of CITIZINE debuted in Austin in March 2008. CITIZINE magazine is published on a bi-monthly basis, and features news and commentary on local issues, as well as exclusive rock music interviews and reviews. The web site www.CITIZINEmag.com offers most recent articles, along with loads of interviews, reviews, and commentaries published in the magazine since CITIZINE was founded in 2003.
