Gabriel Iglesias has been a fixture on the stand up comedy circuit for the better part of a decade, and his immense popularity shows no signs of waning. Last year, he released his stand-up comedy film The Fluffy Movie in theaters across the United States. Iglesias is a perennially hard working guy, often juggling numerous projects at the same time.
On November 7th, he'll bring his comedic sensibilities to the Frank Erwin center. We asked the world-famous comedian some questions about Hollywood, traveling, and the nature of social media.
----
Do512: You’re pretty active on twitter, how do you think social media has changed the game for performers?
Gabriel Iglesias: Social media has definitely changed the game for me. I am able to connect to my fans on twitter (@fluffyguy) and interact with them, daily. YouTube has been a game changer as well. People around the world have been exposed to my comedy through my YouTube channel.
Do512: You’ve been on a number of podcasts. It seems increasingly common for comedians to create their own, do you have any plans to do so?
Gabriel Iglesias: I’m too busy! Right now I’m on the set of Magic Mike XXL. On Fridays you can see me on ABC’s new comedy “Cristela” and the 3rd season of “Stand-Up Revolution” on Comedy Central. In between that, I’m touring the country. No time for a podcast, and no plans to stretch myself any thinner.
Do512: How do you feel about lending your voice to animated projects?
Gabriel Iglesias: I LOVE IT. You are in and out in a few hours, depending on the role. Hollywood, send me more animated projects!
Do512: You were recently in Australia, and you’ve been a world traveling comedian for years now. What special tips have you developed for coping with super long flight times, airport waits, etc?
Gabriel Iglesias: I am a professional traveler. I have developed the ability to sleep easily on planes and I arrive close to the departure, so I don’t spend too much time at airports.
Do512: Your material is very story-centric, have you considered writing a book?
Gabriel Iglesias: I have been approached by a few publishers, but I don’t have any plans to write a book. Again, an abundance of time is not on my side. Ha!
