The Pets Of Do512

We just wanted to find a reason to show you pics of our fur babies...

Everyone knows Austin is an animal-friendly city, and here at Do512, we love our pets! Everyone in the staff has at least one, and we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate them. Almost all of them were adopted or rescued, and we each wrote a little bit below about each of them! Get to know the cutest members of our family below.

This guide is possible thanks to Austin Subaru and their work with Austin Pets Alive! Austin Subaru helps fund community programs like Austin Pets Alive! through their work with the Continental Automotive Group. From the people and pets of Austin, to the outdoor landscapes that we all enjoy, CAG is committed to positively impacting our local communities.

If you're looking to foster or adopt an animal in the Austin area, check out our guide here.

Chester

Owner: Mike

When I lost my dog Ophelia after 16 years together, I wasn't sure If I'd ever be able to open my heart again for another pup, how could I willingly put myself through such pain again? As the months passed I'd find myself getting lost in late night IG rabbit holes of dog adoption videos, or for a real guaranteed tear jerker, "puppy Christmas surprises" videos. My unconscious mind was trying to tell me something. Maybe it was time. Still convinced I wasn't ready for a "long term commitment" I devised the perfect plan. "Do512 Fosters A Dog"!!

Working with our amazing partners in Austin Subaru and Austin Pets Alive!, I would spearhead the perfect campaign to help Austinites learn about Fostering and Adoption. I would lead the charge and foster puppies on Do512's behalf, and use our huge Do512 audience to help find them a home. Genius!! I get to fill my home with dogs again, and help them find loving homes with no commitment!! The perfect plan!!

First Puppy up.....Chester..... The second I picked him up at Austin Pets Alive! and he immediately curled up into my arms and looked up at me with those big brown eyes and goofy underbite, I knew my "no commitment" master plan was in big trouble.

Cut to a few weeks later and the inevitable happened. I was a failure and adopted Chester.  Being a foster failure has been one of the great joys of my life. Chester hasn't "replaced" Opehelia, he enhances her memory and brings new joy to my life everyday that I forgot was possible. It's been such a pleasure re-exploring this city I love with him together.

If you have room in your home and heart to bring in a foster animal, I implore you to give it a shot. Best case scenario you help keep an animal out of the shelter while you find it a loving home. "Worst" case scenario, you are a failure like me and find your new best friend.

Mary

Owner: Jacob

We adopted Mary from APA! in August of 2022, when she was just barely a year old. By this point in her life Mary had already given birth to a litter of kittens, so we made it our mission to give her the pampered life a single mother deserves. Despite being diagnosed with feline hyper hyperesthesia Mary is extremely affectionate and becomes fast friends with everyone she meets. She is one of the brightest parts of our life, and I truly don't know how we would get by without her.

Jaques

Owner: Raechel

Jaques is a senior dog who enjoys quiet walks and snooper-vising at the rock climbing crag. He was adopted from the Austin Humane Society when he was 2 years old. He's 10 now!

Rio

Owner: Raechel

Rio is a chihuahua/border collie mix who DEFINES "Ball is Life" for dogs. The quickest way to his heart is throwing a ball, any ball for him. He came into my life through a re-homing situation during COVID as a 6-week-old puppy. He's 5 now and hasn't slowed down at ALL.

Tibby

Owner: Brooke

Tibby was adopted at 8 months old from San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter in October 2016. She learned to swim in the beached entries of McKinney Falls, loves to collect sticks of every size, and will never say no to a pup cup! Tibby loves everyone she meets and can learn any trick when there's a treat at stake. She's grown into a very sassy and outspoken girl who always has something to say thanks to her giant personality. Despite walking into the shelter that day with "no intention to adopt," (Yeah, right!) Tibby's mom can't imagine life without her stalky little rescue baby!

Scully

Owner: Ben

My wife used to babysit for a coworker and would see Scully occasionally around the house (she was living with a relative of theirs at the time). Unfortunately, due to a passing in the family, Scully changed homes many times, and by the time my wife saw Scully again years later, she was experiencing severe neglect from someone who clearly didn't want her. We decided to take her in and give her a new home. She also needed overdue medical attention; Scully was very overweight when we adopted her, and she had bladder, ear, and thyroid issues. She was already 10 years old at the time, and now she's 15! I'm happy to say that Scully is doing much better. She still has her cherry eye (a common condition in aging beagles), and she has developed arthritis in her back legs, but she is otherwise a very active senior dog (and highly food motivated!)

Dobby

Owner: Ben

This guy's a real piece of work, let me tell ya, but we love him just the same! We found him under my wife's car when he was only a few weeks old. My wife had just lost her senior pug Popeye after 15 years, and we are convinced Dobby was "sent" to her by him. Dobby is now 4 years old, and every day is a new adventure around here with him. When he's not talking to us nonstop, or tearing up a piece of furniture, or zooming around like a lunatic, he's engaging in some of the cutest cuddle sessions on Planet Earth. I don't know what we'd do without this little dude.

Athena & Valky

Owner: Mandy

Mandy’s dog duo, Athena and Valky, are two sweet, oversized German Shepherds who graciously let the kids — and the 8-ounce parrot — run the household. They’re big fans of “good girl” treats, long walks, and lying in wait beneath the bird’s perch, hoping for snack-time fallout. When they’re not playing bodyguards or sneaking forbidden couch time, they’re keeping a watchful eye on Prince, the tiny parrot with a big attitude, whose favorite hobby is doing something mischievous and then proudly telling you, “No.”
