How To Beat the Heat at Float Fest 2016

The last time we talked about Float Fest, it was to highlight the impressive music lineup featuring Chromeo, Rick Ross, Santigold, Future Islands, Yeasayer, and many more. Now that we've all had some time to let that soak in and plan our schedules accordingly, it's time to focus on the other essential aspect of Float Fest: the floating. It's the only festival around Austin that kicks off with a built-in, foolproof method to beat the heat.

It's safe to say that anyone with sweat glands has noticed how unbearably hot it's gotten outside. There's no place we'd rather live than Texas, but she can be a cruel mistress in the summer months. At a certain point, you've got to find yourself some cold water to submerge in. Float Fest is a two-day festival that is scientifically engineered to make sure you stay nice and cool during your visit to Cool River Ranch.

Here's how floating the river will work at Float Fest 2016: The gates at Cool River Ranch open at 10:00am sharp, just before the sun has had a chance to do a number on anything living under it. Head to the box office and redeem your tubing passes, camping passes, and concert tickets. Easy, right?

If you're camping out at the festival, you can go ahead and check into your campsite at 10:00am. After collecting your wristbands, you and your friends will await the shuttles at the tubing staging area. You then take the official shuttle to the festival's river drop in location and BOOM- you're chilling in the river en route to the party.

After that, it's an easy, breezy, four hour (rough approximation, your mileage may vary) float back to Cool River Ranch, where music, drinks, and food await you. The float is as beautiful as it is leisurely, so be sure to enjoy the scenery as much as you enjoy the ride. When you exit the river, you'll be led directly up the hill to the concert gates.
